DIY Ring Sizing for Geeks: How to Nail It Without Leaving Home
The Eternal Struggle of Ring Sizing
Let’s be honest—shopping for rings online can feel like a gamble. You find the perfect design, your inner geek squeals with joy, you hit “add to cart”... and then the anxiety creeps in.
What if it doesn’t fit? What if it’s too tight? Too loose? What even is your ring size?
We’ve all been there, fiddling with rings that spin like hula hoops or pinch like a trap. And when you’re dealing with fandom jewellery that actually means something to you, it’s not just annoying—it’s tragic. That’s why at Le Dragon Argenté, I make sure your ring isn’t just awesome, it fits.
The Perks of Custom Sizing Done Right
What makes my service different? I don’t just make cool rings—I make cool rings that are cast in your size. Not “close enough.” Not “good for now.” I cast each one to fit you. No mass-produced approximations. Whether it’s stainless steel, antique bronze, or .925 sterling silver, I create the piece to your exact specs, made-to-order with love and a little bit of dragon magic. Your fandom deserves that kind of attention. You deserve that kind of attention.
Sizing From Home Isn’t a Myth
Now you might be thinking, “Okay, but how do I know my ring size?” Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. There are DIY tricks you can do from home that actually work, if you do them carefully.
One method? Wrap a snug strip of paper or string/thread around the base of your finger—not too tight, not too loose. Mark where it overlaps, then measure the length in millimetres. That number can be converted to a ring size chart. It’s not wizardry—it’s just the right kind of nerdy science.
My shop uses standard US/Canadian ring sizes. Ring sizes can vary between wide and skinny rings depending on the hand. An example is my skinny ring size is a 9, but my wide ring size is a 10.
- For larger hands with smaller knuckles, measure the meat of the finger for wide rings, the base of the finger for skinny rings.
- For skinny hands with even size fingers and knuckles, measure the base of the finger.
- For hands with large knuckles, measure the knuckle size snugly.
- For pinky and index fingers, the rings need to fit snugly enough they cannot easily fall off but not tight enough that they can cut off circulation.
An option is you can purchase a plastic ring sizer on Amazon. they are easily available and can measure size 1-17 USA Rings Sizes. I also have some available in my shop if you need them.
If you're sizing a wide band or something chunky, I’ll often recommend going up half a size. Trust me, I’ve cast rings for people with all sorts of hands and styles—everything from very small to very large sizes too that are rarely found in other shops as options!
