A beautiful handmade antique bronze winged Isis necklace to grace the throat of anyone, this necklace is solid but beautiful and the goddess holds a 7mm faceted lapis lazuli in her hands! It's perfect for every day wear. It is a new take on the classic pendant and a design found in tombs in Egypt.

This Winged Isis Necklace holds much symbolism. Isis, a symbol of feminine power and divine magic, is often associated with protection and nurturing qualities. Details:

• Materials: antique bronze, a mix of 90% copper and 10% tin. Free of nickel, zinc or cadmium, which are common metal allergens, which can cause rashes and sores. For more info on bronze, read the blog post or consult my FAQ.
• Dimensions: The pendant is 4.3cm long and 4.8cm wide. there are loops on the tips of the wings to allow to attach a 4mm wide cable chain and a lobster clasp in solid antique bronze.
• Gemstone:  a 7mm faceted lapis lazuli.

Isis was a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion whose worship spread throughout the Greco-Roman world. Isis was first mentioned in the Old Kingdom as one of the main characters of the Osiris myth, in which she resurrects her slain husband, the divine king Osiris, and produces and protects his heir, Horus. She was believed to help the dead enter the afterlife as she had helped Osiris, and she was considered the divine mother of the pharaoh, who was likened to Horus. Her maternal aid was invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. Isis was also depicted as a winged goddess or a kite (one of her sacred animals). In this form her wings spread a heavenly scent across the land and brought fresh air into the underworld.

Lapis lazuli was prized by Egyptians, and is still to this day. It is a deep blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. In ancient Egypt, lapis lazuli was a favourite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs and was even used in the gold death mask of Tutankhamun. Powdered lapis was used as eyeshadow by Cleopatra.
