Pride Is Still Powerful

Why June Still Matters

Pride Month has always held meaning, but every year I’m reminded just how important it still is—for the LGBTQIA2S+ community and for all of us who believe in equality, inclusion, and the right to live authentically.

Pride started as protest, and while it’s become more colourful and celebratory over the years, that foundation hasn’t changed. The roots of Pride are steeped in resilience.

People who were told they didn’t belong stood up and said, “We’re here—and we’re not going anywhere.” That bravery sparked a global movement. And while we’ve come a long way, we’re not done yet.

What Pride Looks Like Today

Pride today is both a celebration and a reminder. It’s about love, identity, history, and the ongoing fight for safety and recognition.

It’s not just flags and parades—it’s visibility, community, and showing support in tangible ways. It’s also a time for allies like me to listen, learn, and take action in support of the people we care about.

It’s important to remember that being an ally isn’t a label—it’s a practice.

It means standing with the LGBTQIA2S+ community not just during Pride Month, but all year long.

It means amplifying queer voices, supporting queer-owned businesses, and doing the work to understand the challenges still being faced.

Why I Care as an Ally

I care because I’ve seen the difference that acceptance and support can make. Because I believe that love is love, and identity isn’t up for debate. Because we all deserve to be seen and celebrated for who we are.

When people are free to be themselves, the world gets a whole lot more vibrant! That’s something worth fighting for, and it’s something I’ll always stand behind.

Let’s Keep Showing Up

So this Pride Month, I’m celebrating. I’m supporting. I’m showing up. And I invite you to do the same in whatever way you can—whether it’s speaking up, sharing stories, donating to queer-led initiatives, or simply telling the people in your life that you see them, and they matter.

Because Pride isn’t just a party—it’s a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in building a world where everyone can thrive.

Let’s make sure we keep that spirit alive, not just in June, but always!

Stephenie
