Halifax, you beautiful, nerdy city—Hal-Con 2024, you did not disappoint! This year’s event was an absolute blast, and let me tell you, being there as a vendor was a journey filled with geeky fun, Maritime kindness, and, yes, a bit of personal chaos (thanks to my currently broken finger and hand in a cast). But hey, what’s a convention without a few challenges, right?
The Kindness of Strangers (AKA: Maritimers to the Rescue!)
So, there I was, rolling into Halifax with my booth gear, jewellery displays, and... a bright blue cast on my hand. In true Atlantic Canada fashion, the folks here rallied around me! I had vendors on either side of my booth jumping in to help me set up without a second thought. Honestly, I almost teared up at the sheer kindness. It was like the whole convention had this unspoken rule: if you see someone struggling, you just help. And that, my friends, is why Maritimers and Con attendees are just the very best people!
My famous blue hand.
The Hal-Con Vibe: Geeks, Cosplayers, and Fandoms Galore
This year’s Hal-Con was packed to the rafters with incredible cosplays, panels, and, of course, the best crowd of fans ever. The energy was electric! People were stopping by my booth to chat—honestly, my nerd heart was full. I had folks geeking out over my handmade jewellery, too, with many gemstone ring orders now to complete. It was amazing to see folks get excited when they found something that spoke to their inner fandom! As I rarely under the best circumstances have time to snap pictures of all the amazing cosplays in attendance, here are some more which stood out which were shared on Hal-Con's Facebook page.

A Reminder That Geeks Are the Best People
If there’s one thing Hal-Con 2024 reminded me of, it’s that the geek community is made of pure gold. Even with my injury, I felt nothing but love and support from everyone around me.
So, thank you, Halifax and Hal-Con 2024. You’ve renewed my faith in the power of community, kindness, and good ol’ geeky fun. Can’t wait to do it all again next year—hopefully with both hands fully functional!
Until next time, keep shining, keep geeking out, and remember: the world is a little brighter with a touch of fantasy!
